After I Left, My Cold Ex Fell Apart

After half a year on exchange in London, Molly Harper returns to New York, where her boyfriend Ethan and her best friend Ava come to meet her. Ethan, once so rigid he would not loosen his collar, now wears a black stud in his ear — the match to Ava's earring. At the airport, at a Mexican restaurant where the manager knows them as regulars, and in the rain outside, Molly watches Ethan tend to Ava with a warmth he never showed her. Then a coworker's message reveals that the training spot at New York headquarters, which Molly spent a year preparing for, now bears Ava's name — and that Ethan wrote the recommendation letter himself.
