He Begged for a Heart That No Longer Beat for Him

Luciana and her husband, Leonardo, burst through the hospital doors, panic clawing at their throats. Their daughter, Clara, lay limp in Leonardo’s arms, her skin pale, her breaths shallow.

Within moments, doctors surrounded them. “She needs an immediate transfusion,” one said urgently. “But there’s only one compatible donor—”

A pause.

“Leonardo.”

Before he could respond, the doors behind them swung open with a sharp, echoing bang.

A woman stepped inside. Ariana - Leonardo’s first love.

And she wasn’t alone.

A small, frail boy clung to her hand—Cristian. Her son.

His son.

The words the doctors spoke next sliced through Luciana like a blade. Cristian suffered from the same rare condition as Clara. And only one of them could receive the transplant.

Two children. One father. One chance to live.

Leonardo’s choice came without hesitation.

“Save Cristian.”

Luciana’s breath caught in her throat. “What about Clara?”

He didn’t meet her eyes. His silence said everything.

As the monitor’s steady beeping slowed, Luciana gathered Clara in her arms, pressing trembling kisses to her forehead. She whispered promises her daughter would never hear—until the final tone pierced the room, long and hollow.

And in that moment, Luciana’s world shattered.
