Synopsis
After Leo is injured in a collapsing practice room, a violinist receives a documentary from eighteen years in the future. In it, she watches herself abandon her career to care for him for eighteen years, only to learn he was hurt while secretly meeting Riley, her best friend, and that Riley took her place as principal violinist and as his widow.
Waking near the practice room, she finds her Pirastro strings on Riley's violin and sees footage of Leo tuning them for Riley and coaching her on the piece she had chosen for her own competition. When Leo asks her to retire so Riley can take her spot, she refuses, takes her awards and compositions to Sam, and reclaims her company-sponsored assignment.
Back home, Riley holds her violin and Leo offers up her sheet music, but she no longer intends to be their stepping stone.
