He Played Me, I Married the Don

Diana turned down an arranged alliance with Edward, the Godfather of House Soros, to marry Lucas, the man she loved at first sight. On the day they are meant to collect their marriage license, Lucas cancels the appointment in front of the whole room, and his friends and even her best friend Cindy laugh at her desperation.

When Diana finally confronts him, Lucas admits the humiliation was deliberate, calling her clingy and telling her she cannot make him her whole world. As her mother phones, cheerful and eager to welcome Lucas to lunch, Diana decides she will never again let her parents lose face because of him. She sends a voice message to Edward, asking him to bring his documents to the registry office within ten minutes.

Edward replies that he has left the estate and is nine minutes away. Lucas, watching her, warns her to stop being unreasonable.
