My Husband's Struggle for Career and My Support

On their fifth wedding anniversary, a wife watches her husband, Shaw, rush out to unclog a drain at his female boss Amy's house. He stays out all night, and the next morning Amy sends the wife a red envelope as an apology. When Shaw discovers she accepted it, he panics, not from guilt but because he fears it will damage his standing with Amy. He transfers money back to Amy and coldly warns his wife not to accept such gifts again.

The wife, Jane, has long endured his repeated late-night visits to Amy's home, his excuses, and his accusations of jealousy. She has stopped believing his claims of a pure superior-subordinate relationship. When Shaw presents her with a pearl necklace for their anniversary, she refuses it, knowing pearls are Amy's preference, not hers. She then asks for a divorce, revealing she is pregnant and has won fifty million dollars in the lottery, neither of which she intends to share with him.
