My Sister and I Had My Husband's Baby on the Same Day

Odessa Kane goes into early labor and takes a cab to the hospital where her husband, Dr. Stellan Draven, works. He does not answer her calls. Ten hours into labor he finally appears, only to say he must perform a C-section for Ariadne, the adopted daughter of Odessa's parents. Odessa's own mother and father hold her down and tell her that Ariadne's baby is Stellan's, kept secret to protect her pregnancy. After delivering her daughter Evelyn, Odessa finds no family waiting, only a message from her mother, Vivienne Kane, saying they will not visit.

Nurses gossip about Ariadne's hospital-wide email, white roses flown in from Holland, and the VIP suite Stellan arranged for her. Odessa is placed on a cot in a hallway. Stellan refuses her a room, denies her extra meals, and knocks away the oatmeal a neighbor offers Evelyn. The formula Ariadne mixes makes the baby sick, yet Stellan dismisses it and leaves when Ariadne calls. Odessa decides she is done with this family.
