The Hockey Star’s Regret

Five years ago, Ava spent 99 days making Damian Knight, the "Ice God" captain of the New York hockey team, fall for her. As the team's intern physical therapist she handled his conditioning by day and was his lover by night — until she overheard him tell his teammates she was merely an intern, unworthy of him, and that he would propose to Chloe the moment she returned to New York. Touching her still-flat stomach, Ava vanished that very night.

Now, at a grand New York charity gala, Damian is about to bid on the blue sapphire necklace "The Queen's Heart" for Chloe. But a child's voice cuts through the hall: Ava's son Leo declares his mother likes the necklace and his bid is no limit. Humiliated by Chloe and Damian's teammates, who mock Ava as a disgraced intern and Leo as a liar, Ava raises her paddle at ten million dollars. As the jeers swell and Damian demands to know whose child Leo is, Chloe raises her hand to strike the boy.
