The SWAT Captain's Second ChanceChapter 3

Chapter 3 runs about 1,011 characters and is the last of the 3 opening chapters catalogued on this site; chapter 4 continues in the official app.

After leaving the clinic, Piper and I parted ways. Sam came to pick her up, and the two of them clearly had a mountain of logistics to discuss.

I went back to my apartment, collapsed onto the bed, and fell into a dead sleep until dusk.

When I finally woke up, my stomach was growling loudly. I ordered takeout on my phone, turned on the TV to let some background noise fill the quiet apartment, and curled up on the couch.

Without the combat gear, his broad frame looked less intimidating, though no less commanding. A faint sheen of sweat glistened near his temples, as if he had hurried up the stairs.

He took a slow, measured breath, his dark eyes locking onto mine.

“Well? Aren't you going to invite me in?”
