The Woman Who Erased Her Marriage

For twenty-five years, I was the wife of a syndicate don in all but name—standing beside Viktor Devereux while he built an empire I was never truly part of.

On our anniversary, I asked for something simple.

“A trip to the Crimson Coast. Just the two of us.”

He didn’t even look up from his papers.

“Don’t be sentimental, Vivienne. At your age, you should understand how this works. Seraphina does.”

Seraphina. My cousin. The woman he once dismissed—now the one he openly brought into his inner circle.

That night, I saw the sealed invitation.

The Devereux Rite. Viktor and Seraphina. Union confirmed.

My son knew. My father approved. The entire family had already chosen sides.

They told me it was “for appearances.” That I would “understand eventually.”

So I stopped waiting to be included.

I went into the private sanctum, severed the bond agreements that tied me to his name, and removed myself from every protection and claim the Devereux syndicate held over me.

No confrontation. No scandal.

Just quiet disappearance from his world.

And for the first time in twenty-five years…

I was no longer the don’s wife.

I was no longer anyone’s possession.
