Sight Unseen

On her first day at a new school, a girl is targeted by Jace, the resident bad boy, after she unknowingly wears an outfit similar to the school's Queen Bee. He pours milk over her head, then mocks her mismatched eye color. She calmly removes her golden prosthetic eye and sets it on his desk, revealing she is blind in one eye. The classroom falls silent, and Jace's arrogance turns to shock.

His attitude shifts completely. He awkwardly offers her tissues, which she refuses, and later carries her to the nurse after she is tripped and injured. But she overhears Jace and Chloe, her hostile cousin, in the nurse's office: Chloe demands he destroy her, invoking a debt from a past suspension. Jace reluctantly agrees.

Having secretly recorded their conversation, she wonders how Jace intends to destroy her.
