Synopsis
When a crash out of town leaves one identical twin dead and the other injured, Ava's husband Michael comes home carrying an urn and a story: the hospital mixed up the brothers, and it was Matthew who died. Ava accepts the news with a widow's grief, but she knows the man who walked through her door is her own husband. The birthmark he carved from his arm gives him away.
In a previous life, Ava insisted on the truth and was branded a madwoman. Michael denied her, Amy called her a homewrecker, and the son she bore was taken from her and given to Amy to raise. Now, with her in-laws gone and her husband newly deceased, Ava is free to decide what becomes of the child she carries, and she lets Michael live on as Matthew.
At the funeral, she burns the keepsakes he once gave her, and Michael can only watch the flames.
