At the company holiday gala, Harper wins the grand prize: a Hermès Kelly bag worth around forty-five thousand dollars. When an appraiser tells her it is a cheap knockoff, she takes it to the office to report it, but the Head of Operations intercepts her. By that afternoon she has a termination notice and a lawsuit, accused of selling the real bag and swapping in a counterfeit. Buried in legal fees and debt, she steps off the roof of her apartment building.
